About
The Artist

Kevin Quigley is a painter, cartoonist, and illustrator living with his wife, Hiroko, in South Jersey. His comics and drawings have appeared in publications by Fantagraphics, Top Shelf, Last Gasp, and Simon and Schuster, as well as in many literary journals and alternative ‘zines. He was an early contributor to John Gardner’s acclaimed literary journal, MSS, illustrating stories by Jeffrey Ford and others. Having lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. throughout the 1980’s, Kevin was an enthusiastic participant in the city’s vibrant arts and comics scene of that era. Quigley’s solo comic book, BIG PLACE COMICS, was awarded a prestigious Xeric Grant in 1998, and he is one of the only non-Japanese cartoonists to have appeared in that country’s legendary manga anthology, GARO. He also edited Blast Book’s groundbreaking anthology of Japanese alternative manga ka, COMICS UNDERGROUND JAPAN (1998). A recent book, June Bug Versus Hurricane (2021), collects over one hundred strips from the comic of that name, some of which have been published by the Jersey arts magazine, Inferno and the online journal, Rumpus. Quigley’s gag cartoons, penned by Richard Samuelson and illustrated by himself, have appeared in newspapers and magazines throughout The U.S. and Europe. Having known only pen and ink for many years, Kevin started painting in oils in 2000, initially studying with Pat Witt in Milville, N.J. His work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions in galleries in New Jersey, Philadelphia, and New York. In October, 2024, Quigley showed in Tokyo, Japan, with a solo exhibition of his superhero paintings from 2001-2006. He is currently a part of the traveling CLIQUE exhibition of 15 New Jersey artists, next stop Kramer Hall in Hammonton, N.J. Another solo Tokyo exhibition is scheduled for August, 2025, and in April, 2026 he will have a solo exhibition of over 50 mixed-media works at Perkins Arts Center in Collingswood N.J.
